|
| |
| How do I install the myPlayer application? |
You have two options:
- Install the myPlayer cab directly by clicking this link via a web browser on your mobile device
- Alternatively, connect your device to your PC (eg. via a USB cable) and then download the msi executable
|
| |
| myPlayer displays the message "Your version of myPlayer is out of date ..." |
| Please download and install the latest version (myPlayer v1.100) |
| |
| myPlayer displays the message "This version of myPlayer is no longer compatible with the latest streaming content ..." |
| Please download and install the latest version (myPlayer v1.100) |
| |
| myPlayer displays the message "Service Unavailable ..." |
If you receive this message and your Internet connection is active the service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance server side. Please try again at a later time. If all of the services appear to be unavailable or the problem persists please contact for further assistance. |
| |
| How do I specify my media player preference? |
Select "Menu -> Options" and make sure the first selection box is set to "Configure stream settings individually". Then click the "Player Configuration" button and the media player configuration screen will be displayed (as shown below).
Select a media category (eg. BBC iPlayer CatchUp), player preference (eg. CorePlayer) and then select the access method (eg. "Access these streams directly"). You can select a different player / access method for each media type as required. An overview of the current configuration is displayed in the bottom half of the screen. Select "Save" to apply the settings.
|
| |
| How do I start watching an episode? |
| Click on an image thumbnail to load an episode in to the specified media player. |
| |
| myPlayer displays the message "Execution error - unable to invoke media player ..." |
The media player specified does not exist. Select a media player by specifying the parameters as described above. Please note: myPlayer is NOT a media player, it is a media browser. You will have to specify a third party media player to actually view the content. The recommended media player is CorePlayer v1.3.6. The most common players are listed within the application - but you may have them installed to a different location. Select "Other ..." to search for a media player on the device.
To view flash content directly (eg. SBS) you will need to install a player that supports the swf container format. Adobe Flash Lite for Windows Mobile is recommended. |
| |
| Streaming BBC iPlayer Content |
| Can I watch iPlayer from any location? |
| To access the BBC iPlayer content you will have to connect via a Internet provider within the United Kingdom (if you are outside the UK you may still be able to connect via the myPlayer server). Please note: a TV licence is required to watch live BBC content within the UK. |
| |
| On which port is the BBC iPlayer content delivered? |
| BBC iPlayer CatchUp episodes (TV and Radio) are delivered via the RTSP port (554). If you are connecting via wifi please make sure your router is not blocking this port. |
| |
| Which media players can be used to view the BBC iPlayer content? |
| The recommended media player for all streaming content accessed via myPlayer is CorePlayer v1.3.6. Alternatively, the HTC Streaming Player application will load the RTSP streams. Windows Media Player should work on devices running Windows Mobile 6.5 and the native asplayer should work on Samsung devices (eg. Omnia). |
| |
| Downloading BBC iPlayer episodes as an alternative to streaming |
If you are unable to stream the BBC iPlayer content (or you want a higher quality experience) you may be able to download high quality episodes to watch offline.
Please refer to the section "How do I download a BBC iPlayer episode?" below. |
| |
| Downloading High Quality BBC iPlayer Episodes |
| How do I download a BBC iPlayer episode? |
High quality BBC iPlayer episodes can be downloaded directly to your device (for future offline viewing if required).
To download an episode click the (i) button along side an episode thumbnail to load the information panel. If the episode is available for download an arrow will be displayed. Click the arrow to download the episode to your device.
You will have to specify a download location with at least 300Mb memory to start the download. Please note: downloads can also be sourced via the myPlayer server if a direct connection to the BBC server is unavailable (for more details see the "How do I specify my media player preference?" section above).
|
| |
| Which media player should I use to view the high quality downloads? |
| The high quality content downloadable via the BBC iPlayer service is in the h264 format at a resolution of 420x270 pixels.
CorePlayer is the recommended media player for these files, although HTC Album also does a very good job at rendering them.
To specify a media player perference please select "Player Configuration" from the Options menu (as described above).
The Downloads media type (labelled "Dload:") is the setting that needs to be configured. |
| |
| I have downloaded an episode but it wont play in CorePlayer / HTC Album |
| As the files downloaded are relatively large, there is a possibility that the content may be corrupted during the download process (eg. due to a signal drop on a 3G/HSDPA connection).
If you are unable to play the file in CorePlayer (or HTC Album) it is likely the download has been corrupted. In this case please delete the file and restart the download to resolve the problem.
We recommend that you download high quality episodes via a wifi connection where possible. |
| |
| Managing your download history |
Downloads are saved to a specified location on your device. To view your download history select "View -> Downloads -> Library". From this screen you can replay previously downloaded episodes and / or delete them to free up space on your device / storage card.
To review the location of your downloads and configure the way myPlayer schedules the requests select "View -> Downloads -> Settings". |
| |
| Connection Errors |
| CorePlayer displays the message "Network not available!" |
Ensure that "Enable Network Access" preference is checked. Select "Menu -> Tools -> Settings/Preferences", then choose "Select Page -> Network". The "Enable Network Access" option should be the first listed, ensure that it is checked / ticked.
|
| |
| CorePlayer displays the loading logo but the content never starts |
Ensure that the "Prefer UDP streaming" preference is NOT checked. Select "Menu -> Tools -> Settings/Preferences", then choose "Select Page -> Network". Uncheck / untick the "Prefer UDP streaming" option. If UDP is unselected and you still experience this problem it is likely that the port you are attempting to connect through is being blocked. You should select an alternative server (eg. wifi instead of 3G / HSPDA) and / or access method (eg. streaming via the myPlayer server instead of direct access).
|
| |
| CorePlayer displays the message "Data read error!" |
The port you are attempting to connect through is being blocked. If you are connecting via the myPlayer server it is worth trying the same connection multiple times as it will attempt a different port each time. If you are connecting directly you will need to select an alternative network (eg. wifi instead of 3G / HSDPA) or switch to streaming via the myPlayer server.
|
| |
| CorePlayer displays the message "Player: Video codec (On2 VP6) not supported by the player! (0109)" |
| CorePlayer does not support this version of Flash video. Please install Adobe Flash Lite for Windows Mobile and set it as the default player for the Flash media type (by selecting "Player Configurtaion" from the Options menu). |
| |
| Playback Issues |
| The display visually distorted (often green) without any clear content |
| The display driver in use cannot decode the current content successfully. To fix this problem in CorePlayer select "Menu -> Tools -> Settings/Preferences", then choose "Select Page -> Video". Switch the video output option to "GDI" (instead of the default value of "Direct Draw").
|
| |
| The playback keeps pausing and resuming intermittently |
The bit rate of the stream may be higher than your current connection bandwidth (this will be most notable on a weak 3G / HSDPA signal). This issue may be resolved by switching to the alternative "3G" quality stream in myPlayer by selecting "Menu -> Stream Quality -> 3G". Please note that after switching the quality in myPlayer you will have to cease any previously streaming content and start a new session. To save the stream quality setting for the next time you load myPlayer please use the "Default Stream" setting on the Options menu.
You should be able to improve the stability of the playback by increasing the buffer size in CorePlayer (2400KB is recommended). Select "Menu -> Tools -> Settings/Preferences", then choose "Select Page -> Buffering". Set the value of the normal buffer size to 2400KB.
|
| |
| Other myPlayer Messages |
| "Content streamed via the myPlayer server can only be viewed with the CorePlayer application" |
| CorePlayer (v1.3.0 or higher) is required to view content streamed via the myPlayer server (Hulu, MSN, etc). This is currently the only mobile media player that can read the transcoded format (which is accessed from a embedded flash source). |
| |
| "You do not have sufficient streaming credit available to view this stream via the myPlayer server" |
| Credit is consumed whilst streaming via the myPlayer server to ensure that the server bandwidth is not overloaded by multiple users. If you exceed your initial 250Mb quota you will have to reserve additional credit either via the myPlayer application or by visiting the myPlayer credit redemption page. Please note: registered myPlayer Pro users will receive 150Mb worth of credit at the start of each month. |
| |
| "Unable to initialise media stream, the myPlayer server is currently full" |
| If the myPlayer server has reached the maximum user capacity then it will refuse any further connections and this message will be displayed. You can try to connect to the alternative myPlayer server by checking the "Use alternative myPlayer media server" option on the "Stream Settings" menu. |
| |
| "Media stream failed to initialise on the myPlayer server, the URL could not be authorised" |
| The myPlayer server can only transcode approved media sources. You may get this message if you attempt to stream a "non-Favourite" Live TV feed via the myPlayer server as not all feeds can be sufficiently validated. In this case please revert to direct access for the Live TV feed index. |
| |
| "... episodes can only be streamed via the myPlayer server as additional decoding is required" |
| Content that is transcoded from an embedded flash source (that is: Hulu, MSN Video and Five On Demand) must be streamed via the myPlayer server. This is due to the fact that additional decoding is required to provide a stream that is viewable via the CorePlayer application. |
